Billy Porter is on the path to a healthy holiday. After his urosepsis diagnosis in September 2025, Porter shared a hopeful update on Instagram on how he’s been doing since. “Some of you may or may not know that I was in the hospital very ill this fall with urosepsis,” he began on December 22. “It was not easy. It’s been a very, very challenging four months. And I want everybody to know that I am on the road to a full recovery. I’m not there yet, but I’m on the road to that.” Because of his illness, he departed from his role as the Emcee in Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club a month early, on September 7, as he recovered from his “serious case” of sepsis; at the same time, the show announced it would be closing for good a few weeks later. Alternates Marty Lauter and David Merino filled in for the role for the remaining shows until the final performance on September 21.

“I wanted to thank everybody for your prayers and your love and sending me all the vibes,” Porter emotionally continued. “I felt every single one of them. And I know that I’m alive today because of my fans.”
