Billy Porter ‘On The Road’ To ‘Recovery’ Following Battle With Sepsis

Tony, Grammy and Emmy winner Billy Porter is sharing a health update after his turn in Broadway‘s Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club ended prematurely following a sepsis diagnosis.

In an Instagram video posted earlier today, the Kinky Boots alum began by wishing his followers a “happy holiday, Merry Christmas, happy Kwanzaa, happy Hanukkah and everything in between.”

He continued, “Some of you may or may not know that I was in the hospital very ill this fall with urosepsis. It was not easy. It’s been a very, very challenging four months. And I want everybody to know that I am on the road to a full recovery. I’m not there yet, but I’m on the road to that.”

The Pose star added, his voice breaking with emotion: “I wanted to thank everybody for your prayers and your love and sending me all the vibes. I felt every single one of them. And I know that I’m alive today because of my fans.”

In the caption of the video, he echoed “She’s ALIVE!!! Proof of life, PTL!!!”

Revival producer Adam Speers announced Porter’s withdrawal from production due to a “serious case of sepsis” in early September. Cabaret was initially meant to close Oct. 19.

“It is with a heavy heart that we have made the painful decision to end our Broadway run on September 21,” he said at the time. “On behalf of all the producers, we’re so honored to have been able to bring this version of John Kander, Fred Ebb, and Joe Masteroff’s important masterpiece, Cabaret, to New York and to have opened the doors to our own Kit Kat Club for the year and a half we have been here.”

Marty Lauter and David Merino, the production’s two alternates stepped in for Porter’s Emcee role.
