Why Erin & Ben Napier Won’t Be Hosting ‘Home Town Takeover’

Erin and Ben Napier have hosted the past three seasons of Home Town Takeover since the popular Home Town spinoff launched in 2021. But they say they won’t be able to host the upcoming season.

The couple tells Cinemablend that that they are not “legally allowed” to host the entire upcoming season of Home Town Takeover. For the first time, the show will be filmed in Canada, and they cannot, by Canadian law, host.

“Our production company is Canadian. The people who make our show, they’re passionate about this Canadian takeover,” Erin tells Cinemablend. “But, because we are Americans, we are not legally allowed to host the show. We can only be in it as, like, guest stars.”

“Yeah, a Canadian broadcast show has to be hosted by Canadian talent,” adds Ben.

Reportedly, the law stems from the Online Streaming Act, which focuses, in part, on broadcasts being able to “maximize its use of Canadian creators.”

Per the show’s logline, “Ben and Erin Napier, along with members of the HGTV family, lead a major overhaul to revitalize a small town by renovating the homes of the town’s changemakers, businesses and community spaces.”

Erin notes she has never been to Canada and is “excited to go”, thinking “it would be magical in the summer.”

Ben tells the publication the new main hosts have been chosen and he and Erin approve. “We know who it is and I can say we really like them. It’s another husband and wife team.”

Stay tuned.
