Maine among multiple states impacted by an ongoing Salmonella outbreak

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) – Maine is among 22 states that have been impacted by an ongoing Salmonella outbreak across the country.
According the U.S. CDC, at least one person in Maine has fallen ill due to the consumption of raw oysters.
They say 64 people have gotten sick with the same strain of the Salmonella infection, 20 of whom have been hospitalized. Fortunately, no deaths have been reported so far.
The most common symptoms are diarrhea, fever, and stomach cramps.
The illness usually lasts 4 to 7 days, and most people recover without treatment.
The CDC and Food and Drug Administration are working to determine if a common source of oysters can be identified.
No recall has been announced at this time.
