SR 410 towards Crystal Mountain fully reopens

State Route 410 east of Enumclaw has reopened sooner than expected after crews repaired the roadway that was severely damaged during western Washington’s atmospheric river and historic floods.

WSDOT maintenance teams originally closed the highway on Dec. 10 between Enumclaw and Greenwater due to water over the roadway and serious erosion.

SR 410 partially reopened on Dec. 16 with a “single-lane, temporary gravel bypass constructed on the westbound shoulder,” WSDOT said in a news release.

WSDOT hired general contractor Active Construction, Inc., on an emergency contract to finish repairs. Crews began the final push on Monday.

“The work took 37 hours start to finish with a great team, planning, and execution,” said Ryan Heathers, owner of ACI.

The road is best known as the main access point to Crystal Mountain Resort in the winter.

Now that the road has fully reopened, Crystal Mountain has removed parking permit requirements on midweek days.

“Our maintenance and construction teams moved quickly once conditions allowed, working around the clock to assess damage and make these repairs,” said Steve Strand, WSDOT engineering manager for Snohomish and King counties. “Good weather, strong coordination between WSDOT groups, and a dedicated contractor allowed us to reopen SR 410 sooner than expected.”
