BWI Airport resumes operations after unattended bag sparks security scare

An unattended bag led to a law enforcement investigation and a scare inside the Baltimore-Washington Thurgood Marshall International Airport on Friday, during one of the busiest travel days of the year.
Airport officials said there was no threat and normal operations resumed, after the investigation concluded near the security checkpoint at Terminal D and E.
The police activity paused passenger screenings, closed the terminal roadway and suspended the light rail access.
Travel frustrations at BWI
Travelers at BWI were also frustrated by the weather that led to delayed or canceled flights on Friday.
According to FlightAware, more than 150 flights were delayed, and nearly 100 flights were canceled.
“We tried to head out to the Ravens game tomorrow, but the flight got cancelled,” said traveler Zack Feltz.
Traveler Randi Burgey told WJZ she was already on the plane when her connecting flight was canceled.
“I tried to get off the plane to go see a ticket agent because we were one of the first people on the plane, but they wouldn’t let me off the plane,” Burgey said. “They said you have to do it when you get to Baltimore.”
Now, she’s stuck in Baltimore until Monday.
“Ask me if I’ll do it again, never ever,” Burgey said.
