Chase Stokes Says ‘Outer Banks’ Cast Is ‘Ready’ For Show’s Conclusion

Outer Banks star Chase Stokes said he and his fellow co-stars are looking forward to ending the breakout YA Netflix action-adventure series on a high note.

The treasure-hunting show, which debuted in the wee days of the pandemic and quickly exploded on the streamer, will return for a fifth and final season, slated for release in 2026. Stokes recalled in a recent interview with People that he watched Outer Banks transition from a “little tiny boat show … to a global phenomenon” (complete with fan event Poguelandia, an immersive festival held two years in a row). He added that he and the cast are “thankful for the run, and we’re ready for it to be done.”

The actor continued, “We want the story to end on the right note versus [turning] four seasons into Season 9 and we’re going after aliens or something. We want to cut the chord before we lose the plot.”

Alongside cast members Jonathan Daviss, Madelyn Cline, Drew Starkey, Madison Bailey and Carlacia Grant, Stokes wrapped production on the series last week. He credited co-creator Jonas Pate for sticking to his original vision for the show’s conclusion.

“It’s beautiful to know that even though there’s the highs and lows throughout all of the seasons, it’s ending exactly how I was told when I started the show,” Stokes said.

Season 4 of Outer Banks — set in the fictional Carolinian barrier island town Kildare, and featuring the ongoing feud between the inordinately wealthy Kooks and community-oriented working-class Pogues — closed with the shocking murder of JJ (Rudy Pankow) at the hands of his father. Leading up to Season 5, the Pogues have their sights set on revenge, with some room for “understanding and forgiveness” as the creators previously teased to Deadline that all storylines would be “wrapped up.”

While Stokes is looking ahead to his directorial debut, the OBX crew has its eyes on expanding the universe with potential series spinoffs.
