US Park Police officer struck, hurt after overnight crash in Maryland, 2 drivers arrested

WASHINGTON (7News) — Two people are facing charges after a crash on the northbound Baltimore-Washington Parkway in Maryland’s Prince George’s County area left a U.S. Park Police officer hospitalized early Saturday morning.
According to United States Park Police (USPP), the officer, who was investigating a disabled vehicle near the 410 ramp around 3:20 a.m. on Dec. 27, was standing next to a patrol cruiser when another vehicle hit both the cruiser and the marked patrol car.

The officer was airlifted by a USPP helicopter to a nearby hospital, where they were treated for their injuries. Authorities said the officer is expected to survive and should be released later in the day.
The driver of the striking vehicle stayed on scene and was taken into custody. The driver of the disabled vehicle was also arrested.
USPP officials said both arrests are connected to suspected impaired driving.

The patrol vehicle involved in the crash was damaged and towed from the scene, according to USPP.
The northbound Baltimore-Washington Parkway was momentarily closed to allow for the investigation and medical transport, but has since reopened to traffic.
