Sabourin fined maximum for slashing in Lightning game

NEW YORK — Tampa Bay Lightning forward Scott Sabourin has been fined $2,018.23, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for slashing Florida Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola during NHL Game No. 591 in Florida on Saturday, Dec. 27, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.

The incident occurred at 1:31 of the third period. Sabourin was assessed a minor penalty for slashing.

The money goes to the Players’ Emergency Assistance Fund.
