49ers Players Are Severely Underestimating the Bears

The San Francisco 49ers are starting to take the Chicago Bears lightly.
The two will face off on Sunday Night Football in search of the NFC’s No. 1 seed, with both needing to win out and the Seattle Seahawks to lose one of their two final games. Chicago is the No. 2 seed, while San Francisco is the No. 5.

49ers receiver Jauan Jennings was asked about how much tape he has watched on the Bears’ secondary in a recent interview. The wideout shared that he really only watched about two games of film on Chicago heading into the matchup.
It sounds like the 49ers are not giving the Bears much attention. Jennings further shared that it’s because the 49ers and Bears usually play on the same day, arguing that it’s hard to watch film on them because of this.
“I mean, I haven’t watched them too much, maybe one game or two,” Jennings said. “We haven’t watched them this year at all. We always play games on the same day, so it’s kinda hard to watch this team.
Jennings has been with the 49ers since 2021 and recently set a new career high in receiving yards last season (975). He is third on the team in receiving yards (566) in 2025, behind George Kittle (599) and Christian McCaffrey (849).

This is an interesting admission from Jennings with so little time until gameday. If other 49ers players are taking a similar approach to the Bears, Chicago may capitalize on this.
The Bears’ defense could especially benefit from this, considering how turnover-prone San Francisco has been this season. The Bears lead the league with 31 forced turnovers, and the 49ers have the 10th-most turnovers by an offense with 20.
The last time that San Francisco and Chicago played was last season. It was the first game for interim head coach Thomas Brown. His interim head coaching tenure didn’t get off to the best start, as the Bears lost 38-13.
San Francisco scored 24 unanswered points before Chicago got on the board in the third quarter.

The San Francisco offense is just as potent this time around, with the 49ers ranking inside the top 10 for passing yards (259.2), points (26.1) and total yards (353.7) per game.
There are some questions surrounding the 49ers’ defense, though. They just let up 27 points and 312 yards of offense to Philip Rivers and the Indianapolis Colts.
We’ll see if the Bears can keep pace on Sunday. Kickoff will be at 7:20 p.m. CT on NBC and Peacock.
