NFL sets time for Detroit Lions final game of season vs Chicago Bears

Detroit Lions flop in Minnesota: Dave Birkett, Jeff Seidel analysis

Dave Birkett, Jeff Seidel talk Detroit Lions flop at U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis on Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025.

The Detroit Lions will finish their season on Sunday, Jan. 4, at 4:25 p.m. against the Chicago Bears at Soldier Field.

It will be a letdown compared to what it could’ve been.

For most of the season, it looked like the Lions’ playoff hopes would come down to their ability to beat the Chicago Bears, led by their former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, in the season finale.

However, the Lions couldn’t get out of their own way over the final weeks, losing three straight in Weeks 15-17 to the L.A. Rams, Pittsburgh Steelers and Minnesota Vikings.

That made the Week 18 matchup mostly meaningless, and saved the Bears a lot of anxiety along the way. A win by the Lions would give them a 9-8 record and their fourth straight season above .500. That would be the first four-season plus-.500 streak for the Lions since 1969-72 under coach Joe Schmidt, and just the third such streak for the franchise since the end of World War II.

The biggest story now will be if the Lions will play their starters in the game that doesn’t have playoff implications and how it will impact their first-round draft pick, which sits at No. 15 entering Week 18.
