Nationwide warning for customers who ‘need to contact us by January 1’

Nationwide is warning people not to “miss out” on £50 in free cash. Nationwide regularly distributes payments to its members, and earlier this year Nationwide bosses announced that millions of customers would receive a “big thank you” payment valued at £50.

To qualify, you must have held Nationwide membership on September 30, 2024, and remained a member when the distributions were processed.

During the 12-month period ending in September 2024, members also needed to have either maintained a debt of at least £100 on one or more Nationwide home loans; held a minimum of £100 collectively across one or more Nationwide current or savings accounts; or completed at least one qualifying transaction through a Nationwide current or savings account.

Nationwide confirmed that all distributions have been completed. The building society, which has branches in Birmingham, added: “If you think you’re eligible and haven’t heard from us, there are ways you can check.”

The majority of payments were transferred directly into customers’ accounts, while others were issued via cheque.

Nationwide said: “Cheques must be paid in by 1 January 2026 to make sure you don’t miss out on the payment.”

Nationwide went on to add: “If you think you were eligible, and didn’t receive an email or letter from us, it may be because your contact details were incorrect.

“You can check your contact details in the internet bank and banking app. It may also be because our records show you no longer live in the UK, so we have sent you a cheque.

“If this is the case, you will need to contact us by January 1 2026 to confirm your details.

“You will need to log in to the internet bank or banking app to chat with us or visit one of our branches. We may need you to confirm your identity.”
