The unpredictable weather isn’t over just yet.
Environment Canada has reissued a “high level” freezing rain warning for the Ottawa area Monday morning.
Periods of freezing rain are expected throughout the morning before changing to flurries in the afternoon.
But be careful as snow falls, there will be ice underneath.
The weather agency is predicting 15 to 20 mm of ice accretion as temperatures drop below the freeing mark.
Monday night’s low is -14 C.
Ottawa Police are asking residents to avoid all non-essential travel as roads and walkways become slick with ice.
A special weather statement was also issued early Monday morning cautioning Ottawa residents of high winds throughout the day.
Northwesterly and southwesterly wind gusts could reach up to 70 km/h.
A significant ice accumulation mixes with strong winds, Environment Canada says prolonged utility outages can also be expected.
“Customers are encouraged to be prepared in case of extended power outages,” Hydro Ottawa says in an alert on its website. “Please ensure that electronics, such as cell phones and laptops, are fully charged, and that you have flashlights, batteries and a 72-hour supply of water, non-perishable food and medication as required.”
“Our crews are on standby and ready to respond safely and as quickly as possible.”

Travel
If you are travelling today be aware of closures and delays.
According to Ontario 511, Highway 416 and 417 and the roads in the Ottawa city centre are clear, but as you move north into the Valley, roads are slick with ice.
Southbound Highway 416 at Road 43 in Kemptville is also currently closed following a collision involving a transport truck.
According to the Ottawa International Airport Authority, eight flights that were supposed to arrive in Ottawa throughout the day from other Canadian cities have been cancelled. This includes flights from Montreal, Toronto and Halifax. Seven outgoing flights have also been cancelled.
A number of other flights have been delayed.
According to the VIA Rail website, passengers taking the train can also expect heavy delays. Trail 41 bound for Toronto from Ottawa was originally scheduled to depart at 5:21 a.m. before experiencing a three hour delay. it is now expected to arrive at Union Station at 1:20 p.m.
