Colts owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon hasn’t talked job security with Shane Steichen

INDIANAPOLIS — Colts principal owner Carlie Irsay-Gordon has not had conversations with head coach Shane Steichen about his job security at this point, Steichen said Monday.
The two team decision-makers talk frequently.
Irsay-Gordon is a consistent presence on the sidelines and the practice field, and the head coach can often be seen talking with the team’s principal owner during the portions of practice open to the media each week.
But the question of how she will respond to this Colts collapse has not been broached yet.
“I have not had those conversations with Carlie,” Steichen said. “But I do meet with Carlie every week. We do a game debrief, go through the process of every game.”
Hit hard by injuries in the last month of the season, Indianapolis became the first team in thirty years to start a season 8-2 and finish out of the playoff picture.
Irsay-Gordon was asked in June if this season was “playoffs or bust” for Steichen and general manager Chris Ballard, who is finishing up his ninth season in Indianapolis with only two playoff berths to show for it.
The team’s new principal owner indicated at the time that she’d consider the path the team took to its final destination in 2025.
“Do you have a crystal ball with you?” Irsay-Gordon said at the time. “We all have to look at all these factors. I mean, if we had all these injuries decimate (us) – knock on wood on that. I’m just saying there are so many different directions (a season can go.)”
