Ant and Dec have revealed they have multiple contestants playing to win over a million pounds in the new series of the game show Limitless Win. The Geordie duo, both 50, landed a big payday of their own before Christmas when they signed a new three year deal with ITV worth around £30 million.

And they have teased how they hope to show someone on the fifth series of their quiz next month walking away with the biggest cash prize ever seen on British TV.

Dec said: “Everything we know and love is back again. So obviously the Limitless money ladder and we’ve got some more amazing, brilliant, fun contestants. Possibly the biggest change to this series is the attitude in which the contestants have approached it. They’ve obviously seen more episodes now we’re in series five, and they’ve come along a bit braver, playing a bit more strategically and they are really bringing their ‘A’ game.”

“What we really want to do though, is see someone break the record for the most money ever given away on a UK quiz show. So we’re keeping everything crossed for a one and a quarter million pound win!”

Ant added: “We’d like nothing more than to give away millions every episode, but that’s very difficult to do. What we can tell you is we’ve got more people playing above 1 million on the ladder this series than we’ve ever had before.”

Limitless Win revolves around a never ending money ladder and contestants lose lives if they submit a number lower than the correct answer, with the amount of lives taken off being the difference between their answer and the correct one. You just can’t go over the answer – or you lose the game.

In January 2024 the show had its biggest win ever – and one of the biggest in British TV history – when NHS managers Helen and Charlie from Suffolk walked away with £1million. They have set the example for the new players.

Ant said: “So many of them spoke about having watched Charlie and Helen win the million, and it spurred them on to keep going and be brave. It proved that if you use your lifelines, you can just stay in the game until you get a question that you know.”

Contestants are also no longer leaving things to chance and are trying to swot up on questions, which can range from sizes, number of objects in packets or sides of shapes.

Ant said: “They’ve got categorised spreadsheets full of things they think might come up. They measure their own body parts to use as a ruler. In the weeks leading up to being on the show they’ve covered their house in post notes with facts and stats on, in the hope that that will just go in their brain.”

Dec added: “The amount of people who now take tape measures to the supermarket to measure everything in preparation for the show is mind boggling! They must look so weird.”

Ant and Dec also faced being quizzed themselves during each show as contestants can use their ‘Take Two’ lifeline where the hosts give an answer too to help them.

Dec admitted that moment of the show makes him “feel sick” as they risk helping the contestants lose everything.

But Ant said: “Sometimes the questions come up, and I think, oh my God, I hope they press it now because I know this. But that rarely, rarely happens. They normally press on ones that we don’t know, but we’re quite good because we can take a good guess at a lot of things.”

And Dec added: “We have genuinely played more games of Limitless Win than anybody else, because even though we haven’t played it for real, we’ve been alongside every partnership that’s played it. So we’ve been up that ladder so many times, and we have kind of worked a little bit of logic and common sense to things like measurements and lengths of things.

“But we always get really exhausted at the end of a filming Limitless Win because it’s been such an emotional investment for us in every single game and every partnership. By the end of it we’re emotionally drained.”

Ant & Dec’s Limitless Win returns for its fifth series on Sunday January 11, 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
