The Premier League returned on Saturday with all three clubs currently in the race for the title getting victories. Manchester City began the day by claiming all three points in a 2-1 win over Nottingham Forest in the lunchtime kick-off.
The result saw City climb to the top of the table and left Arsenal one point adrift in second place heading into their 3pm kick-off against Brighton.
The Gunners would also go on to claim a 2-1 win thanks to a Martin Odegaard goal and an own goal from Georginio Rutter.
That left Aston Villa to face Chelsea in the Saturday evening kick-off, with Unai Emery’s side battling from a goal down to claim a 2-1 win away at Stamford Bridge.

Joao Pedro had put Chelsea in front in the first half, before an Ollie Watkins brace after the interval saw Villa leave the capital with all three points.
Villa maintained their third-place position and are now one point behind City in second place, and seven points ahead of Liverpool who moved up to fourth thanks to their win over Wolves earlier in the day.
The trio of 2-1 wins for Arsenal, City and Villa set the Premier League title race up for a thrilling conclusion as 2025 nears its end and 2026 almost arrives.
All three clubs will be back in Premier League action in the coming days, with some returning to the pitch before the New Year and others after.
Arsenal will host Villa on December 30 (Tuesday) in what could be a decisive match in the title race, while City will take on Sunderland away from home on New Year’s Day.
