How Bobby George built stunning dart-shaped mansion with 18 bedrooms and three fishing lakes

DARTS icon Bobby George paid homage to the sport he loves when he built his 18-bedroom mansion over 30 years ago.

The King of Bling, 80, constructed his huge home in Ardleigh, a village in Essex, and still lives there now.

George’s sprawling house is unmistakably shaped like a dart flight – a clear nod to his successful career on the exhibition circuit.

The former builder also boasts a pub-style entertainment space, including a bar and snooker table, plus three fishing lakes on the 12-acre grounds.

But George actually wanted his statement home, which he named George Hall, to be bigger.

The two-time BDO World Darts Championship runner-up initially hoped for there to be 28 BEDROOMS before planning authorities warned it would be “over the top”.

George, who constructed the mansion himself, previously told BBC that he “overdid it” with his original blueprints.

The retired thrower said: “I was younger, and I didn’t have any fear. I built a bathroom first so we could use a bathroom, then a bedroom and a kitchen.

“I finished them and then I finished room after room after room.”

George also keeps a strange souvenir in his home along with plenty of darts memorabilia – his own AMPUTATED toe.

The keen fisherman had several toes amputated in 1999 due to a painful genetic deformity and kept one in a jar filled with vodka in his bar.

George told SunSport: “It don’t take long to cut your toe off. I watched them do it.

“What they do, they get your toe and they cut round here [the base], right the way round with a scalpel.

“They put a tourniquet on so there’s no blood. Then they cut it down and peel the skin back.

“Then they get, I’ll never forget, like a big pair of nail cutters.

“And they went, boing, ding, it comes off. And then they sew the skin up.

“He wouldn’t give me the stuff to preserve it. It’s deadly poison, so I can’t do that. I put it in vodka. Been in vodka 26 years.

“It’s curled up a little bit, I think it’s p****d by now.”

George won the prestigious News of the World title in 1979 and 1986, while he was also crowned Essex Masters champion three times.
