Can you trade stocks on New Year’s Eve
Yes, you can trade stocks on Dec. 31, as both of the United States’ main stock exchanges will still be open on that day.
Neither the New York Stock Exchange nor the Nasdaq will be closed on New Year’s Eve. That day is not on their calendars as holidays to take off.
There will be regular trading hours on Dec. 31, the New York Stock Exchange and the Nasdaq said.
The Nasdaq opens at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time and closes at 4 p.m. ET. The New York Stock Exchange’s core trading session starts at 9:30 a.m. and ends at 4 p.m.
However, Jan. 1, 2026, New Year’s Day, the stock exchanges will be closed.
