Fans of Big Fat Quiz of the Year 2025 have heavily criticised the programme after artificial intelligence was incorporated into a comedic segment.
Within minutes of the show beginning, viewers urged Channel 4 to “do f***ing better” following a joke that left many feeling “disgusted”.
This year’s Big Fat Quiz of the Year featured host Jimmy Carr alongside comedians Katherine Ryan, Roisin Conaty, Jonathan Ross, Nick Mohammed, Lou Sanders and Richard Ayoade.
Early in the programme, Jimmy and his fellow panellists revisited a social media phenomenon where users employed AI to generate Barbie doll versions of themselves complete with frequently-used accessories.
Jimmy presented an image of himself as a doll featuring multiple faces, whilst Katherine appeared with a botox syringe and wine, Nick was shown with magical props, and Lou was depicted alongside crystals, reports the Mirror.

One disappointed viewer expressed their feelings about the segment, writing: “Disgusted and saddened to see The Big Fat Quiz of the Year using AI to generate gag doll images. Images so half-a**ed that nobody checked the output. One of them has two magic wands that don’t look like wands, and Jimmy’s is a recycled tax joke from five years ago.”
Another supporter echoed these sentiments: “I’ve watched #BigFatQuiz for at least ten years, and five minutes in the shows using AI? Way to lose a fan base.”
A third viewer commented: “Not even 5 mins in and they’re doing AI slop trends on big fat quiz of the year.”
Meanwhile, a fourth fan demanded: “Opening big fat quiz of the year with AI … channel 4 do f***ing better.”

This isn’t the first occasion the programme has sparked outrage. Previously, audiences criticised the show for failing to provide adequate accessibility measures for blind comedian Chris McCausland.
Throughout 2024’s programme, numerous questions featured visual elements requiring panellists to examine photographs or footage to provide answers.
The images and clips weren’t accompanied by proper accommodations for Chris, leaving his partner Maisie Adams to relay descriptions to him.
Many believed this created an unjust disadvantage for the performer. Whilst Chris appeared unbothered during the broadcast, numerous viewers condemned the absence of inclusive practices.
“The further into the Big Fat Quiz of the Year it gets the more glaringly obvious it is that there have been zero adaptations for Chris and it’s just getting more and more uncomfortable,” one viewer remarked.
A second viewer commented: “Big Fat Quiz of the Year showing itself up by inviting Chris McCausland on as a panellist then not giving him a proper audio description or adjusting the quiz itself to be inclusive… clearly showing the difference between diversity and inclusion at least.”
Channel 4 responded at the time: “The production team consulted Chris McCausland in the weeks ahead of recording to confirm which adjustments he would find helpful for ‘The Big Fat Quiz’ and we are happy that Chris’s preferences were respected.”
