Highlander hiking event to return to UAE’s Ras Al Khaimah for fifth year

Highlander, Ras Al Khaimah’s annual hiking event, returns for its fifth edition from 6 to 8 February 2026. Hosted in partnership with Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA), the event invites adventure seekers to explore trails across Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest peak.

The 2026 edition follows last year’s successful event, which drew more than 250 participants from 35 countries, highlighting strong international interest in RAK’s adventure tourism.

Hikers will trek more than 90km across the Hajar mountain range, with three trails catering to different experience levels. Advanced hikers can take on Highlander Pegasus, a three-day, 37km challenge with a choice between the Wadi Latibah or Wadi Ghalilah trails. Highlander Orion offers an intermediary two-day, 25km journey, with participants carrying their own personal gear for the overnight event. For beginners, Highlander Lyra provides an accessible 13km one-day hike. All hikes end at a shared finishing point.

Beyond hiking, the event highlights RAK’s cultural heritage. Trails pass through historic mountain settlement areas, while Highlander’s camp programme offers local cuisine, traditional music and guided wildlife awareness sessions.

Sustainable tourism also remains central to Highlander, which promotes RAK’s ‘Leave No Trace’ principle, encouraging participants to minimise their environmental impact.
