This role is based within Mariana’s Office, part of the Institute for Innovation and Public Purpose (IIPP) at UCL. Led by Professor Mariana Mazzucato, IIPP integrates cutting-edge economic theory with policy practice to rethink the role of the state in shaping inclusive, sustainable, and innovation-led growth. The institute’s work challenges conventional economic thinking and contributes to debates on innovation policy, industrial strategy, financial reform, institutional change, and sustainable development.
UCL is seeking a Project Coordinator to support the delivery of high-profile, multi-year research and policy projects that influence global conversations on green industrial strategy, public value, and mission-oriented policy.
Role Overview
The Project Coordinator plays a vital role in supporting the day-to-day delivery of a complex portfolio of research and policy initiatives within the Office of Professor Mariana Mazzucato. Working closely with the Programme Manager, Professor Mazzucato, and the wider interdisciplinary team, the postholder will coordinate project activities across multiple workstreams to ensure timely delivery, quality outputs, and effective collaboration.
The role requires strong organisational and project coordination skills, attention to detail, and the ability to operate confidently in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. The successful candidate will contribute to the advancement of cutting-edge economic thinking while supporting practical policy engagement with global relevance.
Key Responsibilities
Project Coordination and Delivery
- Support the delivery of multiple research and policy projects across overlapping timelines
- Maintain project plans, trackers, and schedules to ensure milestones and deadlines are met
- Coordinate activities across workstreams, ensuring alignment with strategic priorities
- Identify risks and challenges early and support timely resolution
Collaboration and Team Support
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration among researchers, policy teams, and external partners
- Support team members with coordination, documentation, and workflow management
- Contribute to a collaborative, well-organised, and high-performing team environment
Communications and Stakeholder Engagement
- Support internal and external communications related to project delivery
- Prepare clear, well-structured documentation and updates for diverse audiences
- Liaise with partners, collaborators, and stakeholders to support effective engagement
Events and Engagements
- Coordinate the planning and delivery of meetings, workshops, and events
- Support international engagements and policy convenings with attention to detail
- Manage logistics, materials, and follow-up actions related to events
Financial and Administrative Support
- Contribute to budget tracking and financial monitoring across projects
- Support funder reporting and grant administration activities
- Assist with planning and documentation to ensure sustainability and compliance
