When is Publix open? Garbage pickup? What’s open New Year’s Eve, Jan. 1 in Miami

You may be going to a party on New Year’s Eve. Or watching UM in the Cotton Bowl. But besides celebrating or cheering, you may need something at the store on Dec. 31 or Jan. 1.

Miami-Dade: On New Year’s Eve, Metrorail and Metromover will run until 2 a.m. You can only exit Metrorail stations after 2 a.m. The Green and Orange lines will run every 30 minutes. Metrorail station parking will be open until 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day. Metrobus and MetroConnect will run on a Sunday schedule. Metrorail and Metromover will run on a weekend schedule.

Broward: Broward County Transit will run on a Sunday schedule.

Tri-Rail: As 2025 becomes 2026, northbound trains will leave Miami Central station, 600 NW First Ave., at 1 a.m. and 2 a.m., making all stops. The rest of New Year’s Day will run on the weekend and holiday schedule.

Garbage

Miami-Dade: Regular garbage and recycling pickups.

Broward County: Regular garbage collection.

Fort Lauderdale: Regular garbage, recycling and bulk pickups.

Note: Residents of other places should check with their municipalities.

Mail

Expect regular delivery and services on New Year’s Eve, but only Priority Mail Express delivery in some markets on New Year’s Day.

Stock markets

New York Stock Exchange will close at 4 p.m. as usual on New Year’s Eve. Both NASDAQ and the New York Stock Exchange will be closed New Year’s Day.

County offices, courts and libraries

Miami-Dade and Broward: Closed New Year’s Day.
