Raptors’ RJ Barrett available to return vs. Nuggets

After sitting out the second half of a back-to-back on Monday, RJ Barrett will be available to return on Wednesday.

Toronto Raptors head coach confirmed the starting guard’s availability to reporters pre-game, for the contest against the visiting Denver Nuggets, while noting Barrett will remain on a minutes restriction.

Barrett sat out Monday’s 107-106 win over the Orlando Magic, a day after he made his return to the lineup in a 141-127 overtime win against the Golden State Warriors.

Barrett played 24 mins in Sunday’s overtime win over the Golden State Warriors, scoring 12 points with seven rebounds and four assists. It was his first game since Nov. 23 due to a knee strain.

In his 18 games this season, the 25-year-old has averaged 18.9 points, 4.9 rebounds and 3.8 assists while shooting a career-best 50 per cent from the field.

Though Barrett will return, centre Jakob Poeltl is set to miss the showdown after being shut down for at least the next week with ongoing back issues.

The 30-year-old has struggled this season, averaging only 9.7 points, 7.7 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in 21 games.

Toronto will look to build on a two-game win streak as they play host to the Nikola Jokic-less Nuggets on Wednesday. Catch the action on Sportsnet 360 and Sportsnet+ at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT.
