Man Utd fans in disbelief over what Diogo Dalot did during Wolves draw, ‘Why is he…’

Manchester United fans can probably pick out many problems from the team’s draw against Wolves, but a Diogo Dalot moment is going viral, and for good reason.

From Ruben Amorim fixing what wasn’t broken by reverting to his trademark formation, to subbing off Joshua Zirkzee at half-time, or moving Patrick Dorgu back to wing-back, the game was a disaster.

The performance was so poor that Amorim could count himself lucky to have Senne Lammens in goal, who saved more points for Man Utd.

Diogo Dalot’s moment of madness vs Wolves

Dalot might divide opinion among the fanbase, but the manager clearly rates him for his leadership and availability.

To his credit, he had even started to silence some doubters in recent games by putting in some good performances.

However, much like the rest of the team, the 1-1 draw against Wolves was a huge step back, and while it wasn’t a blatant error from him this time, it was almost as egregious.

The Premier League’s Instagram account posted a clip from the game, which saw Mosquera head the ball past his own goalkeeper.

Jose Sa was caught in no-man’s land as he sprinted back to claw the ball out, all the while Dalot stood there in the box prematurely celebrating a goal that would never arrive.

Instead of playing until the whistle, Dalot stopped pressing the goalkeeper, which could have put Sa under pressure and, worse still, started celebrating.

For many United fans, it summed up who Dalot is as a player.

Man Utd fans in disbelief over Dalot

Many of Dalot’s critiques will probably describe him as a player who is more flashy than functional, because he’s always pumping fists with teammates, celebrating and thumping chests, while not doing much of note with the ball.

That trait was summed up in that passage of play, and fans didn’t have much patience for it.

“What was Dalot doing? Why is he not pressing?” asked one baffled fan, as another said, “Dalot running away, jumping happily is one of the stupidest football IQ moments I’ve ever seen.”

“Dalot passion merchant. Instead of pressing the goalkeeper, he celebrated,” said a third in frustration, as another cheekily remarked, “Why is Dalot aura farming?”

Another fan was convinced this would have been a goal had Dalot just been proactive, “Dalot standing there. Man, if he chases that down, he could have probably bundled that in.”

“Instead of chasing and making sure that the ball goes in, yup, Dalot celebrated first,” said another.

One fan summed up the majority sentiment perfectly in a rant, writing, “All Dalot knows how to do is hyping other players for doing what he failed to do, they will dribble past Dalot and make a cross, Martinez heads the ball away for safety, Dalot runs towards Martinez and other defenders to hype them up.”

Finally, one fan declared that Dalot is “everything that’s wrong” with the football club. Based on this one clip alone, it’s difficult to argue against it right now.
