Watford’s only defeat in their last 12 Championship matches came in front of the Sky cameras in a 2-1 reverse against Birmingham at St. Andrew’s on the opening day of December, but the Hornets should be confident of reversing roles on New Year’s Day at Vicarage Road.
Three straight wins have propelled Watford into the Championship playoff places and manager Javi Gracia has a supremely talented squad for this level that should continue to improve.
Watford have collected 25 points from 12 home league games, winning seven times and suffering only one defeat, and this could be a good time to play Birmingham as tricky winger Demarai Gray is out injured and midfield anchor Tommy Doyle suspended.
Blues boss Chris Davies also has to serve a touchline ban following his reaction to Southampton’s controversial equaliser on Monday and that won’t help their cause given that they have lost eight of their 12 away league games, the latest of which was a 3-0 humbling at Sheffield United.
