Observations from Alabama football’s pre-Rose Bowl practice

Alabama football took the practice field later than usual on Tuesday. The Crimson Tide had Rose Bowl media day in the morning, and thus began practice in early afternoon ahead of its Thursday Rose Bowl matchup with Indiana.
In compliance with College Football Playoff rules, UA allowed reporters to observe four pratice periods on Tuesday. Here’s what we saw.
Alabama practice observations
— The Crimson Tide was practicing in El Camino College’s stadium. The field surface was artificial turf.
— AL.com did not spot offensive lineman Roq Montgomery on the field. He plans to enter the transfer portal according to CBS Sports.
— The observation time began with the first period of practice.
— The playlist for practice included A$AP Ferg’s “Plain Jane,” AC/DC’s “Thunderstruck,” The Game’s “Love It Or Hate It,” and Nipsey Hussle’s “Victory Lap.”
— Nobody other than quarterbacks wore black jerseys, which signify non-contact participants in practice.
— Jah-Marien Latham and Jeremiah Beaman were both walking the stadium steps during practice. Both players are out for the season with injuries.
— Reserve offensive lineman Mal Waldrep was wearing a boot and riding a stationary bike on the sideline.
— Several members of Alabama’s 2026 recruiting class had arrived. The group spotted by AL.com included quarterback Jett Thomalla, wide receiver Cedarian Morgan, tight end Mack Sutter, and cornerbacks Jorden Edmonds and Zyan Gibson.
— None of the observable practice periods featured 11-on-11 football. Alabama players warmed up and went through individual and positional drills throughout the four periods.
— Tyler Hughes led Alabama’s wide receivers during the observable periods. With JaMarcus Shephard off to become head coach at Oregon State, Hughes, an analyst for the Crimson Tide, has been playing an increased role with the position group.
— Tuesday’s practice observation time ended after four periods. The Crimson Tide will face Indiana on Thursday, kicking off at 3 p.m. CT in Pasadena, with the winner heading to Atlanta to battle Oregon or Texas Tech in the Peach Bowl semifinal.
