DWP Cold Weather Payments triggered in 441 UK postcode areas as weather warning issued – full list

The DWP has issued an update for Cold Weather Payments as 441 postcode areas are now set to receive payments. The Government pays £25 to eligible households when temperatures are forecast to be, or drop below, 0C or under for seven consecutive days.
It comes as The Met Office has issued a warning as it anticipates up to 15 inches of snow in certain parts of Britain today. The weather body anticipates that snow is forecast until Sunday at least – with a yellow weather warning for snow has been issued in Greater Manchester from 3pm on Sunday, January 4 by the Met Office.
Areas in Cumbria, Northumberland, and the Scottish Borders (which include parts of England), affecting a total of 6,000 households, were triggered earlier this week on December 30 after amber cold weather health alerts were issued.
Today, January 2, the DWP have confirmed hundreds of more postcode areas will receive payments following the continued cold weather. An estimated 674,000 households will be eligible for the payments, which will see them receive £25 towards the cost of heating their homes in the next week.
The new payments have been triggered in a total of 441 areas of England and Wales, including large parts of the South East of England, South Wales and Yorkshire. They include payments which were triggered in 18 postcode areas on Tuesday of this week.
No areas of Greater Manchester are included in the latest round; however, households in some parts of Lancashire, West Yorkshire and the Peak District will get the payment.
The £25 payments are made to people in England and Wales who receive a range of benefits including Pension Credit, Income Support, income-based Jobseeker’s Allowance (JSA), income-related Employment and Support Allowance (ESA), Universal Credit, Support for Mortgage Interest.
The DWP explains: “DWP’s Cold Weather Payments are an automatic bank top-up of £25, triggered to be paid to eligible households when the average temperature has been recorded as, or is forecast to be, zero degrees Celsius or below for seven consecutive days at the weather station linked to an eligible person’s postcode.”

Minister for Pensions Torsten Bell said: “As temperatures plunge, Cold Weather Payments will automatically get support directly to vulnerable households.
“Combined with the biggest ever Pension Credit take-up campaign and our Triple Lock commitment – set to increase the State Pension by up to £2,100 over this Parliament – we’re ensuring pensioners get the support they need this Winter.”
The payments are made automatically into a recipient’s bank account and will land in accounts within 14 days of the payment being triggered.
