Hundreds evacuated as Mexico struck by 6.5 magnitude earthquake

A magnitude 6.5 earthquake struck the Mexican state of Guerrero on Friday, according to the country’s national seismological service.The earthquake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.5, and its epicentre was near the town of San Marcos in the southern state of Guerrero, near the Pacific coast resort of Acapulco, according to authorities.The event triggered a seismic alert in Mexico City, and hundreds of people were forced to evacuate buildings.
There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum’s first press briefing of the new year was interrupted by seismic alarms, with footage from inside the room showing the President and journalists evacuating.
