Corriedale mystery as unknown hostage appears after crash

Corriedale spoilers follow.

Coronation Street and Emmerdale fans will be left baffled next week, as a mystery woman plays an intriguing role in the Corriedale special. But who is she – and how will she affect our soap favourites moving forward?

Fans are bracing themselves for high drama as the worlds of Corrie and Emmerdale collide for the first time ever, in a special episode airing on Monday 5 January. The one-off crossover centres around a multi-vehicle crash on a remote road.

In all the confusion of the crash, it’s chaos on the road as traffic builds up near the site.

While viewers wait to learn the fates of those involved in the collision, a van pulls up and comes to a stop. The driver looks to the back of the vehicle where a woman is tied up, clearly terrified for her life.

Who is this mysterious person, and why has she been bundled into the back of a van? Could this be connected to Celia Daniels’ human trafficking operation now that her son Ray Walters has ended her reign of terror?

Could it be April Windsor, who is set to return to the village after a mysterious absence? Or a new character entirely?

Get ready for a game-changing shock when their identity is eventually revealed…

Corrie and Emmerdale fans have already been speculating over the involvement of a soap newbie after the Corriedale cast list was officially announced last month.

40 existing characters from both soaps are involved in the special, along with a surprise wildcard – Jodie, played by Olivia Frances-Brown.

Jodie hasn’t appeared on our screens before, but was mysteriously included in the Corrie section of the Corriedale cast list. All will be revealed…

ITV soap bosses have been ramping up the excitement levels ahead of Corriedale next week. The hour-long special airs on Monday (5 January), straight after regular episodes of Emmerdale and Corrie, and marks the beginning of a new era. From the following day (6 January), both soaps will air five 30-minute episodes per week in an 8pm “soap power hour” slot.

“The new commissioning pattern is viewer-led. We already give more choice than ever to viewers on how they watch us through ITVX and we want to present their favourite soap to them in the most digestible way,” ITV boss Kevin Lygo explained last year.

“In a world where there is so much competition for viewers’ time and attention, and viewing habits continue to change, we believe this is the right amount of episodes that fans can fit into their viewing schedule, to keep up to date with the shows.”

Emmerdale airs on weeknights at 7.30pm on ITV1, and streams on ITVX. Corriedale airs on Monday 5 January at 8pm on ITV1.
