Delta permanently cancels Binghamton Airport route, offers refunds

Delta Air Lines will end service to the Greater Binghamton Airport starting in mid-February.
The Street confirmed that Delta will end flights to the Greater Binghamton Airport in upstate New York on Feb. 14.
“We are in active discussions with Delta and are working closely with our state, local, and federal partners to re-establish passenger service as soon as possible,” said Mark Heefner, Greater Binghamton Airport Commissioner of Aviation in a press release on Dec. 30.
“We also continue to have meetings with multiple airlines as we explore opportunities to expand air service at BGM. Our focus remains on providing reliable, accessible air travel options for the people and businesses of the Greater Binghamton region.”
The airport underwent $54 million in renovations over the last two years but has struggled to retain airlines.
In 2024, low-cost airline Avelo pulled flights from Binghamton “due to a lack of profitability,” making Delta the only commercial airline to service the area, according to The Street.
Greater Binghamton Airport will serve general aviation flights such as flight training, air ambulances and agricultural flights until further notice.
Heefner said Delta will contact passengers who have booked flights to the airport after Feb. 14 with refund options or the ability to switch to another route.
Syracuse Hancock International (SYR) is the only commercial airport in the area, a two-hour drive away from Binghamton.
“This is tough, this is a very tough situation to be in. It’s not one that we want to be in but I think there is opportunity. I think if someone maintains the course and looks down the road, in a year or so, I think there’s going to be better service overall,” said Heefner.
