The Golden State will host major sporting events at local stadiums, including some FIFA World Cup games, the NFL Super Bowl, and NASCAR races at a local naval base.

Some see the World Cup games as a test of California’s infrastructure for the 2028 Olympics, which will make its way to Los Angeles.

While events such as the Academy Awards, Grammys, and other awards shows are often hosted in California, the combination of other events will make 2026 a busy year for the state.

Here are some upcoming California events.

Superbowl LX

The NFL football season is still underway, meaning no team has secured its admission into the Super Bowl. The place the teams end up, however, has been set.

Levi’s Stadium in the San Francisco Bay Area will host Super Bowl LVI on Feb. 8, according to the stadium’s official site.

Tickets are available on multiple sites, including the stadium’s official website. The game will also serve as a testing ground for the Bay Area’s transit system, BART, ahead of the many World Cup games.

FIFA World Cup

Los Angeles and the San Francisco Bay Area will host 14 World Cup games between them over the summer.

SoFi Stadium in LA will host its first game on June 12, with the USA facing Paraguay. Levi’s Stadium in the Bay Area will see its first game on June 13, hosting Qatar against Switzerland.

Nascar Weekend

NASCAR will make its way to San Diego at the Coronado Naval Base for the first time on June 20 and 21, according to NASCAR’s official website.

A track will be built on the naval base and decorated to celebrate the country’s 250th anniversary.

Route 66 Centennial

California’s historic Route 66 spans eight states and nearly 2,400 miles. The route’s western end starts in Santa Monica and spans three counties in the Golden State.

This year, the route celebrates its 100th anniversary, and its legacy has made its way into popular media, including John Steinbeck’s “The Grapes of Wrath” and Disney Pixar’s “Cars”.

Visit California has compiled a list of destinations travelers hoping to celebrate the centennial can visit.

Some popular destinations along the highway include the Santa Monica Pier, the Cabazon Dinosaurs, and Joshua Tree National Park.
