‘End of an era’: Western Mass. brewery shuts down after 14 years

A microbrewery and taproom in the heart of The Berkshires has poured its last pint.

Wandering Star Craft Brewery in Pittsfield closed on Wednesday, Dec. 31, 2025, after its owner decided not to renew his brewing license for 2026, a Facebook post stated.

“We’re proud to have been open for just shy of 15 years and so happy to have got to know and serve you,” the Dec. 23 post reads. “Thank you for being with us through the ups and downs, twists and turns of what has been an immensely full, humbling, fun, grueling and eventful journey. Love Is All You Need!”

Owner Chris Post opened Wandering Star at 11 Gifford St. in 2011, according to the brewery’s Yelp page. Post purchased the space after getting his start by brewing beer at home.

Once he knew he was going to be a business owner, Post enrolled in brewing school, interned at a Manhattan brewpub and shipped equipment to the 15-barrel production brewery and taproom, according to Yelp.

“This feels like the end of an era,” a Facebook user commented on the taproom’s post. “Chris, your love for brewing and community is inspiring.”

Wandering Star offered a selection of fresh draft beer and cans as well as meals from local vendor Braise Worthy.

Aside from the brewery’s famous feline Fuggle, Wandering Star was also known for its outdoor beer garden, games and events such as the annual holiday potluck and karaoke. Over the years, Wandering Star attracted patrons from far and wide.

“Wandering Star Craft Brewery has been a destination for us when we travel to the Berkshires for the last eight years,” a Facebook user commented. “We have come at various times of the year but always had fun and much excellent beer! We will miss you, Chris, and poor dear Fuggle, but wish you all the best in whatever you do in the future! Cheers!!”

Another user commented, “This makes me so sad — We will miss you and Fuggles so much — I wish we lived closer b/c we would have been there all the time — We looked forward to our vacation when we were staying in the area and could spend the whole day with you BBQing and drinking — So many great memories!”
