Exit lane from US 24 to Peterson Road to permanently close in Colorado Springs

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KKTV) – The slip exit lane from eastbound U.S. Highway 24 to southbound Peterson Road will permanently close on Monday.

According to the City of Colorado Springs, the goal of this project is to provide a safer and more efficient transition to the Peterson Space Force Base North Gate.

City officials said drivers will need to use the signalized intersection to make a southbound turn during construction.

According to officials, crews plan to begin installing water line casings in the southwest area of the construction corridor near the electric substation. Crews will also continue installing storm drains at the north end of Peterson Road and Highway 24.

This may cause some traffic delays in the southbound lanes.

Colorado Springs Utilities is installing electrical lines and fiber optic cables on Peterson Road south of Highway 24. They expect this work to continue through mid-January.

Temporary traffic signals will continue to operate at the north and south intersections of Peterson Road to accommodate upcoming construction traffic.

The city said the project supports base access control in day-to-day and emergency operations and accounts for increasing traffic on adjacent roadways associated with planned growth in the Pikes Peak region.
