Joel Dommett and his wife, Hannah Cooper, are ‘petrified’ ahead of welcoming their second child. It’s been a busy few weeks for the telly star, who has been balancing his career with parenting his son, Wilde, now two, with wife Hannah.
And with another little one on the way, it looks like life won’t be getting any calmer in the near future. Despite being someone who “genuinely loves being a dad”, Joel, 40, admits he is experiencing quite a few nerves about growing their brood.
“We’re excited, but I think ‘petrified’ is winning in the emotional state,” he told the Mirror. “The idea of looking after one child is one thing, but the idea of another kid being there and you having to look after that one – I just can’t imagine how chaotic it’s going to be.”

Joel and Hannah, who have been together for 10 years and married for six, have decided not to find out the gender of baby number two. “There’s no secrets any more, really,” says Joel. “So it’s quite nice to have one thing that you can’t find out about and for people to be excited about.”
The couple always seem the picture of happiness on social media, but the star is quick to say that what they share publicly is only a “small snippet” of their life. “Communication [in a relationship] is really important,” he says. “Making sure you air all of your graces and annoyances but also share the happy bits and help each other – it’s difficult, but it’s worth it.
“We have a genuine love for each other and respect, I think respect is probably one of the most important things – I couldn’t imagine doing it with anyone else,” reveals Joel. And while he jokingly admits he and Hannah, 36, rarely have time for cheeky snogs since becoming parents, he says,
“I love having a family, I love Wilde to bits, I couldn’t imagine life without him.” Someone who Joel looks to for relationship inspiration is his friend and The Masked Singer co-star, Davina McCall, and her new husband, Michael Douglas. “They’re just so in love, it’s beautiful,” says Joel.

Davina, 58, and celebrity hairdresser Michael married in a secret London ceremony on 5 December and Joel says that seeing them together shows him “what love is”. “Being around them just always makes you come away happier. They’ve got this aura that’s just incredible.”
Joel and Davina started working together in 2020 and have become “really good friends” since. As well as learning a thing or two about love from the TV presenter, Joel says he’s in awe of how she’s handled both her brain tumour diagnosis and surgery, and her more recent breast cancer diagnosis.
Thankfully, in good health today, Davina has revealed she will undergo five days of radiotherapy this month, as a precautionary measure. “She’s unbelievable,” Joel says. “The last couple of years she’s had have been mad. She’s just been incredible – she’s got over all of it and been through a lot.
“In a strange way, it couldn’t have happened to a more inspirational person. If anyone else is going through any of these things, she has the power to make people feel better about it. So that’s kind of her superpower. She just makes people feel better about whatever it is they’re going through.”

Working with Davina, alongside their Masked Singer co-stars Maya Jama, Mo Gilligan and Jonathan Ross, is a genuine joy, says Joel. Which he admits is rare in the entertainment business. “I often say, you have panels in television that are put together, and they all secretly hate each other. We just really respect and love each other.”
And it’s not only Joel who counts his lucky stars. “We all know how lucky we are to be part of it – everyone loves working on it. From the costume people to the taxi drivers who get excited because they have a secret they can’t tell anyone, everyone just loves the show.”
One of his own personal highlights is writing his own script. “It’s so stupid,” he laughs, explaining how he sits for two hours at a time, writing the “silliest and most unserious” jokes.
This year, the show features a major change – more unmaskings than ever. “It’s almost like figuring out how to make it bizarre again. The celebrities we’ve booked are unbelievable. It’s my favourite series by far. We found a way of getting in lots of extra little unmaskings throughout the series who aren’t necessarily part of the main 12. It feels like the best series we’ve ever made.”
Of course, before settling down in December to enjoy a lovely family Christmas at home, Joel was busy on another mammoth show – co-hosting jungle spin-off, I’m A Celebrity: Unpacked.

Hannah and Wilde headed Down Under with him and while it was an incredible experience, Joel says it left little time for the family to get festive. “When you leave, it’s 10 November – too early to put your tree up. You get back and it’s 12 December and you’ve got two weeks of festiveness instead of a month and a half!”
As for I’m A Celeb, Joel heaped praise on the show for securing names such as comedian Ruby Wax, rapper Aitch and eventual jungle king Angry Ginge. “The Aitch and Angry Ginge circus overtook everything, it was brilliant,” he says. He adds that Ruby was a star signing. “She was just funny, every day.”
Joel says he feels “very lucky” to have the experiences he’s had in his career so far. And something he’s currently excited about is his recent collaboration with King C. Gillette for its gifting campaign and beard care range. Which is fitting for a man who admits he’s only started to embrace his own skin care regime properly in recent years.
“I do use the King C. Gillette range, I think it’s brilliant – it helps me make sure my beard looks on point for television.” He adds, “I use their tinted moisturiser now and I really like their beard softener and beard oil. The routine’s getting longer and longer, but I try my best to keep looking fresh for telly – and for Hannah!”
As soon as he got the call to work with the brand, Joel instantly phoned his pal Tom Grennan, who famously lent his voice to the Gillette advert song, The Best A Man Can Get in 2023. “It’s an amazing brand, with a lot of heritage,” adds Joel.
“Men are starting to moisturise and look after their faces and their routine much earlier than they ever did, which is just great”
