Updated Jets Rumors on QB Plan for 2026 as Insider Predicts Burrow, Lamar Jackson Buzz

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn and general manager Darren Mougey “will leave no stone unturned” as they address the team’s quarterback need in the offseason, according to ESPN’s Rich Cimini.

Cimini wrote Sunday that New York will seek “veteran help” and told fans to “get ready for an offseason filled with rumors.” The Jets insider hypothesized the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson and Cincinnati Bengals’ Joe Burrow could be linked.

Cimini added that the team’s priorities in the 2026 NFL draft are tough to forecast at this stage as well.

The Jets are on track to have a top-five pick, but this year’s class isn’t loaded at quarterback. Indiana’s Fernando Mendoza and Oregon’s Dante Moore are the only two among the top 25 prospects in Bleacher Report’s 2026 big board.

New York has three first-round picks in 2027, which could be a better time to pursue a long-term solution at the position. The QB class projects to be much stronger, though the same thing was said about 2026 before a lot of notable signal-callers underperformed.

The Jets could instead use their draft capital to get a more proven option.

Baltimore is approaching an important juncture with Jackson because his $74.5 million salary cap hits in 2026 and 2027 necessitate either a contract restructure or a costly new extension.

Should the Ravens lose to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday and miss the playoffs, maybe they consider the extreme step of trading their franchise cornerstone and starting anew.

The conventional wisdom with Burrow is that he’ll remain with the Bengals for next season at the very least. Historically speaking, Cincinnati hasn’t budged in the face of trade requests, either.

If ownership dug in its heels with star edge-rusher Trey Hendrickson, then why would the approach change with a player who’s even more valuable?

When the Bengals clearly need so many reinforcements, though, maybe a bounty of first-rounders is enough to make them blink.

According to Cimini, Justin Fields is likely on the way out through a trade or outright release. Brady Cook has started the last three weeks at quarterback for the team and thrown for 516 yards, one touchdown and five interceptions.

The Jets are bound to have a new quarterback for Week 1 of the 2026 campaign. The question is how aggressive they get in their pursuit.
