Baltimore Ravens at Pittsburgh Steelers preview
The Steelers have beaten the Ravens in the final week of the regular season to secure a playoff place twice in the last five years, but they are underdogs at home for their winner-takes-all Week 18 clash with their AFC North rivals this time.
Pittsburgh blew a big chance to wrap things up without the drama of this game when losing to the 4-12 Browns last week, when they seemed more intent on stopping Myles Garrett from breaking the sacks record than winning the game.
It is dangerous to write off Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, who is 23-9-3 as a home underdog in his career, but it’s a major blow for the Steelers that they are still without the suspended DK Metcalf. Their leading wide receiver was clearly a big miss last week.
There is a chance Pittsburgh could get their top defensive player TJ Watt back after a lung injury and that also points to a low-scoring game.
Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson missed last week’s excellent win over Green Bay but is set to return this week, however his fitness issues could also contribute to a low score as the former MVP hasn’t looked like his usual self for much of the season.
With the Ravens turning to running back Derrick Henry and the Steelers relying on Kenneth Gainwell and Jaylen Warren the clock should keep ticking, and forecast sub-zero temperatures also increase the likelihood of a tight battle.
