Former MSU starting QB predicted to land at another Big Ten school via portal

It appears Michigan State will play against one of its former starting quarterbacks next season

It appears a former Michigan State quarterback will be returning to the Big Ten next season.

Former Michigan State quarterback and East Carolina transfer Katin Houser has been recently projected to land at another Big Ten school: Illinois. On3 insider Pete Nakos submitted an expert prediction for the Fighting Illini to land one of the top transfer portal quarterbacks on Sunday. Nakos is one of the top insiders in college football so his prediction carries a lot of weight, so I personally will be expecting a commitment announced soon.

Houser started his career at Michigan State as a four-star prospect out of high school. He appears in 13 games for the Spartans during the 2022 and 2023 seasons before heading to East Carolina via the portal after Jonathan Smith was hired at Michigan State.

During his two years at East Carolina, Houser appeared in 21 games. He recorded 5,306 passing yards, 37 touchdown passes compared to 17 interceptions. This past year, he had an impressive touchdown to interception ratio of 19 touchdowns to six interceptions. He also recorded 351 rushing yards and 13 touchdowns during his two seasons with the Pirates, including nine touchdown runs this year.

The official 2026 Michigan State football schedule has not yet been released, but the Spartans are currently slated to host Illinois as one of their nine conference games next year. So, should Nakos’ prediction of Houser to Illinois come true, then Michigan State will face one of its former starting quarterbacks next fall.
