Physician Breaks Silence on Recruitment Incentive Failures

NL Health Services won’t say whether physicians who signed in-service agreements are encountering any problems getting the incentive packages promised to them.
A Stephenville-based physician claims he’s encountering issues receiving his promised $200,000 incentive package and says he will be leaving the province once his two-year commitment is met.
Dr. Neil Patterson told VOCM’s Open Line with Paddy Daly last month that he’s heard from other physicians who are facing similar issues.
NLHS says it administers a range of physician recruitment and retention incentives on behalf of government, based on eligibility criteria and return-in-services agreements.
It says incentive payments are processed once all required documentation is received from the applicant and is confirmed.
The health authority says it is working with physicians and partners to support recruitment and retention in the province, but is unable to comment on specific physician compensation or benefits.
