Former Memphis QB A.J. Hill following Ryan Silverfield to Arkansas

Former Memphis football quarterback A.J. Hill will reunite with former Memphis coach Ryan Silverfield at Arkansas.
Hill committed to the Razorbacks on Jan. 5, he announced on social media. Silverfield left for Arkansas after the 2025 regular season and also brought several Memphis coaches — including offensive coordinator Tim Cramsey — to Fayetteville with him.
Hill, a freshman, has four years of eligibility remaining. He played in two games during his freshman season, with the second coming in the Gasparilla Bowl after the game was already out of hand.
Hill was one of Memphis’ highest-ranked recruits ever and drew national headlines when he committed to the Tigers in the summer of 2024. The Warner Robins, Georgia, native was behind Brendon Lewis on the depth chart in 2025 and split time with Arrington Maiden behind Lewis. Maiden is also in the transfer portal, while Lewis is out of eligibility.
Hill came in for an injured Lewis in Memphis’ Oct. 18 loss to UAB. He nearly brought the Tigers back for a comeback win, but a late-game drive fell short near the goal line because of multiple false-start penalties at the 1-yard-line.
He was 13-of-25 for 175 yards with a touchdown and an interception in that game.
Like Memphis, Arkansas will have a new starter in 2026. Taylen Green is out of eligibility, but backup KJ Jackson announced at Silverfield’s introductory press conference that he’ll return to the Razorbacks. He’ll presumably compete with Hill and others for the starting role.
Hill isn’t the only former Memphis player heading to Fayetteville. Starting guard Malachi Breland and starting receiver Jamari Hawkins have both committed to the Razorbacks as well. In addition to Cramsey, offensive line coach Jeff Myers and receivers coach Larry Smith both followed Silverfield to Arkansas.
