Amy Madigan celebrates Critics Choice Awards win for ‘Weapons’

Amy Madigan took to the Critics Choice Awards stage Sunday night to express shock at her win for “Weapons.”
Madigan, 75, nabbed the best supporting actress trophy for her performance as bewitching elderly aunt Gladys in the 2025 horror film.
“I really wasn’t expecting all this because I thought people would like the movie,” Madigan told the crowd. “And I thought people would dig Gladys but you love Gladys. I mean, it’s crazy!
“I get makeup tutorials and paintings. I even got one weird thing about how she’s a sex icon, also. Which, I didn’t go too deep into that one,” the actress joked before thanking “the whole team that created the look.”
“I never really knew what it [meant] to thank your fans,” she added. “Usually I see that with great music people. But I’m thanking my fans for this, too.”
From “Barbarian” director Zach Cregger, “Weapons” spooked moviegoers across America with a plot that follows a cadre of schoolchildren who all disappear from their class on the same day. Madigan’s character, the elderly aunt of several of the students, became a cult favorite, both terrifying and delighting audiences.
A haunting figure who controls people in her small town using their personal items, she forces her victims to move in unnatural ways and drains their life force for herself. The win for “Weapons” marks Madigan’s first Critics Choice Award. She has already scored a victory for best supporting actress at the New York Film Critics Circle Awards and is up for a Golden Globe for the film as well.
“It feels good, when you put it all in perspective of my life,” Madigan told USA TODAY shortly after learning the news of her Globes nod. “Having a part like this, I just feel grateful for it.”
