Nobody Wants This isn’t just the title of a Kristen Bell show, it’s also how Cher feels about Bell’s current relationship. In the January 5 episode of his Armchair Expert podcast, Shepard asked Cher to pick a “dream partner” for his wife. “I know you think she could do better, and I don’t disagree,” he said, going on to assert that the singer who starred alongside Bell in the 2010 film Burlesque is “just not sold yet” on him as the actress’s match. Cher, who was sitting next to Bell during the podcast taping, replied with a laugh, “No, but the truth is, I trust her. So you must have something that I don’t see.”
Elsewhere in the interview, Shepard, who has a history of bringing up swinging on his podcast, asked Cher if she had ever “joined” an existing marriage. “Hop on by,” Bell suggested, with Shepard quipping, “She’ll move in with you. She just wants me to get the fuck out of the picture, I think.” Despite the self-deprecation, Shepard did make a case for himself, suggesting that one positive quality he possesses is that he’s “not threatened” by his wife and mother of his two daughters “shining.”
At the end of the conversation, he acknowledged that Cher’s reaction was “expected” and that “nobody’s good enough” for Bell. At that point, Bell stepped in to defend her man, assuring Cher, “He’s a slow burn, but you’re gonna learn to love him.” She also described her husband as “almost too good for me” and “the best dad there ever was,” adding that the way he looks with his shirt off is “pretty premium as well.” Last year, Bell commemorated their relationship in an Instagram post, writing, “Happy 12th wedding anniversary to the man who once said to me: ‘I would never kill you. A lot of men have killed their wives at a certain point. Even though I’m heavily incentivized to kill you, I never would.’❤️” Bell later limited the comments following online criticism that the post made light of domestic violence or reflected poorly on Shepard. Apparently, Cher doesn’t stand alone.
