Flyers sign F Dvorak to five-year contract extension

The Philadelphia Flyers have signed centre Christian Dvorak to a five-year contract extension worth $25.75 million, the team announced on Monday.
The deal carries an average annual value of $5.15 million.
Dvorak, 29, is having a career year in his first season in Philadelphia, with nine goals and 25 points in 39 games. He is currently on pace for 53 points, which would far exceed his previous career his of 38 set with the Arizona Coyotes in the 2018-19 season.
“We’re very happy to have Christian be a part of the Philadelphia Flyers for the foreseeable future,” said general manager Daniel Briere in a release. “He has played a pivotal role in our team’s success this season and proven to be a reliable, two-way center that can be trusted in all situations. More importantly, he plays a big role in our locker room and has fit in seamlessly to our group and what we are building.”
Dvorak signed with the Flyers after spending his first nine NHL seasons split with the Coyotes and Montreal Canadiens.
The off-season additions of Dvorak and forward Trevor Zegras in free agency have helped jumpstart the Flyers this season, as they entered play on Monday ranked third in the Metropolitan Division at 21-12-7. Philadelphia has not qualified for the playoffs since the 2019-20 campaign.
In 573 career NHL games, the native of Palos, IL has 114 goals and 274 points.
