Schools close as snow coats Shropshire

Snowfall and freezing conditions have caused disruption on the roads across Shropshire and prompted a number of school closures.
Residents woke on Monday morning to a blanket of snow with yellow weather warnings issued in the region and temperatures expected to drop to -3C later in the day.
Shropshire Council said 10 of its schools were shut due to the weather, while Telford and Wrekin Council announced closures at 10 schools and delayed start times for two.

Among road problems, Jiggers Bank into the Ironbridge Gorge was partially blocked with slow traffic reported.
A Met Office spokesperson said: “Snowy, wintry weather can cause delays and make driving conditions dangerous.
“Keep yourself and others safe by planning your route, giving yourself extra time for your journey. Check for road closures or delays to public transport and amend plans if necessary.”
The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) has amber cold weather alerts for England running until Friday – warning that temperatures are likely to impact people’s health.
