Well, Stranger Things fans: As of publishing this, it’s Jan. 7. Thanks to the theory now known as Conformity Gate — in which die-hards have found Easter eggs galore — it’s the date on which a supposed Episode 9 is supposed to drop, revealing that the last few Season 5 eps were all a lie.
So did the ninth episode of the final season come out on Wednesday? The answer, as of publishing this on Wednesday morning, is: No. As we noted on Tuesday, there were multiple reasons this wouldn’t happen, and that it would be shocking for Netflix and the Duffer brothers to pull off this move.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but maybe we can all agree that the final few episodes were a thrill ride that we enjoyed! And we can continue debating about the fate of a certain main character.
What is Stranger Things Conformity Gate?
It’s a fan theory in which viewers think the kids were all still under control of Vecna and that a final on top of the series finale would drop on Jan. 7 to show the “real” ending.
Why is Jan. 7 important in Stranger Things Conformity Gate?
It’s Orthodox Christmas, which would fit with the release dates of Season 5 (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Eve).
