Celtic are reportedly closing in on the signing of Canadian international Niko Sigur from Hajduk Split, with the deal described as “one step away” from completion.

The 22-year-old has emerged as a key target for the Hoops, who appear to have beaten Premier League side Wolves in the race for his signature.
💥BOOOM!💥
It looks like Niko Sigur from @hajduk is now ‘one step away’ from joining @CelticFC. Canadian international was also on @Wolves radar but Celtic won in race for his signature. Deal is on hold for a few days since Wilfried Nancy got sacked. More to follow. pic.twitter.com/dymeTW1uoY

Sigur, who is capable of playing both at right-back and in defensive midfield, has been on Celtic’s radar as they look to strengthen a squad that’s shown serious vulnerabilities throughout the season.
His versatility, combined with his 15 caps for the Canadian national team, makes him an attractive addition. He’s also a teammate of Alistair Johnston, which could help him settle quickly at Parkhead if the deal goes through.
However, the timing of the move has been complicated by recent upheaval at Celtic. With Wilfried Nancy sacked and head of football operations Paul Tisdale also out the door, the club is undergoing yet another reset, and that has temporarily put the Sigur deal on hold. While the move is still seems expected to happen, the club needs to navigate its internal changes before finalising the paperwork.
Transfermarkt list Sigur primarily as a defensive midfielder who can also operate at right‑back.
This season he’s split his minutes between the two roles, featuring 4 times from right‑back and 7 times in defensive midfield, where he scored a goal.
Across his club career he’s made 39 appearances at right‑back (1 goal, 1 assist) and 32 in defensive midfield (1 goal, 1 assist).
This would be Celtic’s second link to a Hajduk right-back in recent times, following the successful acquisition of Josip Juranović, and it’s clear the recruitment team sees value in the Croatian club’s output.
Now under interim boss Martin O’Neill, Celtic will be hoping to press ahead with key signings to steady the ship in a season that’s gone badly off course.
