Jelly Roll, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Chrissy Teigen to judge for Netflix’s Star Search

Netflix announced that Jelly Roll is among those who signed on as a judge in the upcoming reboot of “Star Search.”

The streaming service made the announcement Tuesday. Jelly Roll joins Sarah Michelle Gellar and Chrissy Teigen as judges.

The show, which premieres on Jan. 20, will be hosted Anthony Anderson. Episodes will air live Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 8 p.m./9 p.m. ET.

“The live voting feature is a total game-changer,” Anderson told Tudum. “Knowing that fans from all over the world can cast their votes in real time adds a whole new layer of excitement and participation to the mix. It’s like we’re all part of the show and get to be one of the judges.”

The show will give viewers the chance to use real-time voting to help pick which contestants move forward in the competition.

Each “Star Search” episode will highlight up-and-coming performers in numerous categories — music, dance, variety, comedy, magic, and juniors — as they compete head-to-head for their shot at stardom. With an arced competition structure and weekly eliminations with real-time global voting, the series builds dramatic momentum, making every live episode an unmissable event.

The series, which was hosted by Ed McMahon, was in syndication from 1983-95.

The original show launch the careers of Beyoncé, Adam Sandler, Britney Spears, Justin Timberlake, Dave Chappelle, Christina Aguilera and others.

“Star Search” was rebooted at CBS in 2003 with Arsenio Hall as host, but it was canceled after one season.
