£187,500-a-Week Star Wants to Join Leeds, He’s Available in January Transfer Window

Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips would be keen on a return to Leeds United in the January transfer window, but the Yorkshire club are unlikely to make a move, according to Four Four Two.
Phillips has endured a difficult time since he left Leeds to join Manchester City. His last appearance for the club was back in September, playing just seven minutes in a Carabao Cup tie against Huddersfield Town. His previous Premier League outing was in May last year, playing a total of 22 minutes against Everton.
The English midfielder has been sent out on loan on two occasions since his move to Pep Guardiola’s side. His most recent temporary move was to Ipswich Town when they were in the Premier League, playing a total of 22 times. During the second half of the 2023/2024 campaign, he was also out on loan at West Ham United, but struggled for the Hammers.
Kalvin Phillips Wants Leeds Return
According to a report from Four Four Two, Phillips would be open to returning to Leeds in the January transfer window if the Yorkshire club were to make a move to secure his signature. It’s claimed that as it stands, Daniel Farke’s side are unlikely to pursue a move for the £187,500-a-week earner, after bringing in Anton Stach and Sean Longstaff during the summer transfer window.
The City midfielder looks set to be available this month, with the 30-year-old clearly not a part of Guardiola’s plans at the Etihad Stadium.
Phillips has played a crucial role for Leeds in the past, but there’s no doubt he’s far from the same player he was when he was plying his trade at Elland Road.

Leeds Heading in a Different Direction
Leeds are heading in a different direction at the moment in terms of their recruitment, which is why the signing of someone like Phillips might not make a lot of sense. In the summer transfer window, Farke’s side primarily targeted players over six foot, who are all physically dominant on a football pitch.
Phillips has lost some of that physicality in recent years and is more of a technical player, so adding him into Leeds’ midfield would be going against their recent recruitment model. A fine player on his day, but those days are behind him, and Phillips is going to struggle to convince another club to pay his wages at the moment.
