Report: Cubs acquire starter Edward Cabrera from Marlins

Edward Cabrera is headed to the Cubs from the Miami Marlins in exchange for top outfield prospect Owen Caissie and two other hitting prospects, ESPN’s Jeff Passan reported on Wednesday.

Cabrera, 27, is coming off a solid season with Miami, posting a 3.53 ERA along with career bests with 26 starts, 132.2 innings pitched and 150 strikeouts.

The Dominican Republic native had been a steady presence for Miami since debuting with the team in 2021. For his career, Cabrera sits 21-27 with a 4.07 ERA and 1.31 WHIP over 89 appearances (87 starts).

Cabrera has never appeared in the post-season. He will remain under team control and eligible for arbitration for three more seasons through 2028 before reaching free agency.

The Cubs’ rotation now includes Cabrera, NL Rookie of the Year runner-up Cade Horton, along with Matthew Boyd, Jameson Taillon and Shota Imanaga.
