‘Here We Go’ – Fabrizio Romano: Aston Villa Agree Surprise £10.5m Transfer for English Striker

Aston Villa have agreed a deal to sign 16-year-old forward Brian Madjo from Metz, according to Fabrizio Romano.

The Villans are looking to strenghten their squad this month after an excellent first half of the season, but the club are not restricted to a short-term signing, and are also looking at the future with potential future superstars in their eyesight.

Now, they have agreed a deal to bring in a young English striker in a deal worth £10.5m, as they look to secure the long-term future of the club and Unai Emery’s side in a deal that has been described as a ‘surprise’.

Aston Villa Agree £10.5m Striker Deal

Madjo, who currently plays for Metz in France, is a highly-rated 16-year-old striker, and Villa have moved quickly to secure a deal for his signature this month.

According to Romano, Aston Villa have agreed to pay €12m (£10.5m) to sign the 2009-born striker in a move that was orchestrated behind the scenes by the recruitment team. A medical is booked, and Madjo will sign a five-year deal in the Midlands to complete the move imminently.

At 6ft 4′, Madjo is a physical presence up front and could be viewed as a potential long-term replacement for Ollie Watkins, while the club also have young Rory Wilson in their academy who is tipped to have a very bright future as a striker.

Despite being just 16, Madjo has already made his first-team debut for Metz, featuring five times in Ligue 1 this season without scoring a goal. He is also an international, having been capped three times by the Luxembourg senior team, while also representing England at Under-17 level.

Aston Villa Securing the Future

Villa Park

Aston Villa have long been lauded for having a fantastic academy, and they often bring through young players to play men’s football, but there’s nothing wrong with being able to sign young players from elsewhere if they’re good enough.

Madjo is one of those, and with the long-term future of players like Morgan Rogers already secured, it seems as though the Villans are already preparing for life in the coming years as opposed to just being short-sighted in their pursuit of immediate success.

A deal like this will ensure they’re still able to compete for years to come, regardless of who the manager is or what else happens on the pitch, and the club have made a statement by signing a talent like Madjo at this stage in his career.
