Calgary Flames may not end up trading Blake Coleman before the deadline

The trade deadline could wind up being a lot quieter for the Calgary Flames than most would have envisioned.
After a horrendous start to the 2025-26 season, fans were expecting the Flames to quickly turn into sellers. Instead, management chose to remain patient, which has resulted in this team pushing itself back into the playoff picture.
Though the Flames will by no means be buyers at the trade deadline, they may not be in as big a rush to move on from some of their veterans as fans would like. That includes Blake Coleman, who, with one additional season remaining on his contract, may still be in a Flames sweater once the trade deadline passes.
“With the knowledge that anything can change over one phone call, I had heard as of last weekend [that] the Flames didn’t hear anything that would really knock their socks off for Coleman,” Sportsnet’s Elliotte Friedman said on Oilers Now.
“I got the sense that it was a bit more noisier around [Rasmus] Andersson than Coleman.”
Coleman, 34, currently leads all Flames skaters with 13 goals this season. He’s on pace to surpass the 20-goal mark for the fourth time in his career.
Though many Flames fans have been hoping to see Coleman moved for a package that helps improve the organization’s future, there is no need for GM Craig Conroy to move him should offers fall short of what they envisioned. After all, he is still under contract through the 2026-27 season, meaning a deal could be revisited in the summer or even into next season.
While it remains to be seen what happens for Coleman, it continues to feel likely that Andersson is moved between now and the trade deadline. The pending UFA sits second amongst Flames players in points with 27, and has a cap hit of just $4.55 million.
